About
Hi! I'm Rachel Boulos, a freelance editor and writer from the flyover states of the Midwest (US). Collaboration is the heart of what I do! I'm driven by a passion for storytelling and a desire to help you succeed. Discover more about my editorial work, training, and interests below. I'd love to partner with you!

Experience
Editorial
I own and operate Writerly, LLC, a business that provides editorial and writing services. I'm a freelance copyediter for a Christian nonprofit, a line editor for a small publishing company, and provide a wide range of services for independent authors (developmental editing, copyediting, book coaching, etc.) Prior to freelancing, I developed and ensured quality content for midsized organizations, managed projects and the editorial process, and oversaw a team of contributing writers. I've helped writers turn their ideas into an outline, build a cohesive plot, restructure chapters and scenes, develop well-rounded and believable characters, resolve plot holes, identify gaps and inconsistencies, correct mechanical errors, understand genre expectations, and more. It is an honor and privilege to play even a small role in a writer's journey!
Writing
As a writer and blogger, I've spent over ten years in the industry producing high-quality content. My writing has been published in print by Zondervan and featured on Christian platforms. As the winner of DaySpring's Voice of Inspiration Award, my faith-based articles help readers find healing when life hurts. With a global reach of 150+ countries, my articles continue to be rated #1 and #2 by Google Search Engine. As an authenticity reader, I strive to remain trauma-informed and provide accurate representation to readers navigating chronic illness and mental health challenges.
Specialty
Romantasy, Fantasy*, Self-Help, Personal Development, Religion, Christian Living, Bible & Theology, Psychology, Mental Health. Middle Grade (MG), Young Adult (YA), and Adult. Also interested in: Romance, Mystery, Thriller, Historical Fiction, Memoir. *Authors deserve an editor who is a good fit for their content. Therefore, I do not work on erotica, paranormal romance (with the exception of shifters and immortals/fae), LGBTQ romance, or anything with occult elements because I feel I would not be able to do these books justice.
Education
I've been professionally trained in developmental editing and copyediting (fiction and nonfiction) by the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA).
I hold a master’s degree in spiritual formation and discipleship from Moody Theological Seminary (Chicago), which included extensive coursework in systematic theology, hermeneutics, counseling, sermon and curriculum development, spiritual disciplines, and the transformative care of individuals and groups. I also hold a bachelor’s degree in educational ministries with a minor in psychology, reflecting my continued interest in human behavior and mental health.

Interests
My Goal
My greatest joy is helping others grow and succeed while providing hope in the messy spaces of life.
Traveling
My love for people, history, culture, good food, and jaw-dropping scenery has inspired me to visit five continents and twenty-six states. I've also lived in five states including the far north (where the air hurts my face) as well as major cities.
Hobbies
When I'm not working, you'll find me exploring the outdoors with my husband, lost in a good book, binge-watching TV shows, blogging, laughing at memes, or finding any excuse for a coffee date. I enjoy music, gardening, cooking, archery, horseback riding, kayaking, and quiet mornings. As an older millennial, I now enjoy the occasional birdwatching.
Currently Watching
I love storytelling in all forms and enjoy a wide variety of content. I will absolutely binge any great TV show without hesitation. Some of my favorites are The Night Agent, Downton Abbey, Bridgerton, Outlander, The Last Kingdom, The Handmaid's Tale, The Expanse, Shadow & Bone, etc. Some of my all-time favorite movies are Star Wars, LOTR, The Hunger Games, Avatar, Chronicles of Narnia, anything Marvel and DC Comics, The Proposal, The Notebook, and literally so many I can't fit them all on this page.
Currently Reading
Lately I've been reading series like Powerless, ACOTAR, Fourth Wing, Spark of the Everflame, Red Queen, Wingfeather Saga, and I enjoy anything by C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Tim Keller, and Henry Cloud. I also love discovering new stories from my clients and indie authors!
